Water supply model

In July 2009, the State Government confirmed it's support for a water reform model consisting of the State entities and three Council-owned integrated distribution and retail businesses. More information on the State Government Water Reforms is available on the QWC web site.

Seqwater (Bulk Supply Authority) – a State-owned statutory authority which supplies water from dams, weirs and treatment plants to SEQ Water Grid Manager and some rural customers. Also responsible for catchment management and water quality for these assets.

WaterSecure (Manufactured Water Authority) – a State-owned statutory authority which supplies water from Gold Coast Desalination Plant and Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme to SEQ Water Grid Manager, power stations and the Wivenhoe Dam.

LinkWater (Bulk Transport Authority) – a State-owned statutory authority moving water from dams and other water sources through bulk pipeline networks.

SEQ Water Grid Manager – a State-owned statutory authority which oversees operation of Grid functions and flow of water around the Grid. Purchases bulk water and water transport services and will sell water to the Local Government-owned integrated water and wastewater businesses from July 2010.

3 x Integrated Distribution and Retail Businesses – Local Government-owned businesses that will will be responsible for water delivery, wastewater transport and treatment, recycled water treatment and supply, operations and maintenance, new infrastructure, and retail services including billing and customer service.
